Brian Hodge
As usual, my book reviews are really just a few words about what I thought of the book. I don’t go into the plot or the characters really. You can look the book up on Amazon for that, and the story blurb there will be better than what I would write here.
The only other book I have read by Brian Hodge is Wild Horses. It is one of my all time favorites. I knew this book was coming a long time before it was published. I kept checking Hodge’s website for updates. I anticipated this book for a long time and was very excited once it was available. I bought a copy from Amazon, and to my surprise, it was signed by the author. A special edition of 1,000 signed copies. Cool.
The book started off pretty well and kept me interested, but about the middle third of the book didn’t. I just wasn’t connecting with the characters, and was having trouble getting into the story like I did Wild Horses. There didn’t seen to be as much depth to the characters. I considered stopping halfway through and moving on to something else. I’m glad I didn’t. As I think back, I read that part of this book very sporadically, so maybe that's the reason.
The last third of the book was great. I looked forward to reading it every chance I got. The bottom line is while I didn’t like it as well as Wild Horses, I did enjoy it very much…and I recommend it. If Brian does another crime novel, which I hope he does, I’ll buy it as soon as it’s released.
