The Queen Of Bedlam

THE QUEEN OF BEDLAM
Robert McCammon

This is the second book in Robert McCammon’s “Matthew Corbett Series”. I have looked forward to reading this novel ever since finishing Speaks The Nightbird, which I loved. This one was very different from the first. As I have said before…McCammon puts you there. He is the best descriptive writer out there in my opinion. Not too much detail, not too little; just the perfect amount for you to form a clear picture in your mind as you are reading. He is also a master at developing characters.

Stephen King once wrote that it’s not about the ending, but about the journey. I agree with that to a point. When I think back on this novel, I won’t be thinking about just the ending or a couple of specific parts, I’ll be thinking about the enjoyment I had making the journey through the 600+ pages.

The pace of the novel for me was a comfortable 30-40 mph, but at one point it jumps from 40 mph to 100 mph and stays there. I couldn’t put it down. The bottom line is that I very much enjoyed the novel. It was very different from the first, which is fine. I am thankful that there are going to be 10 novels or so in this series, and am looking forward to continuing the journey with the next book.

Hunter Goatley, webmaster at www.robertmccammon.com, e-mailed me the other day saying that the next book has just been completed. The hard part now is waiting six months to a year for publication.

As always, in my reviews I just let you know if I liked the book or not. I don’t go into the plot or storyline. If you’d like to know what the book is about CLICK HERE.

I had the pleasure of meeting Robert McCammon a couple of months ago at a book fest in Kentucky. CLICK HERE to see that blog post.
